CIRIO, a superstitious young Brazilian man, dreams of a mystical symbol and a mysterious man who announces that "the meeting will be tonight. As he wakes, a hand draws the same symbol in his fogged up bedroom window. Spooked, he tells his Aunt Lumail about the dream. She tells him to get back on his medication and take better care of himself. The next day is filled with omens from the dream - or so it seems to Cirio's vivid imagination. His horoscope seems to foretell the meeting, as does the DJ on the radio and a book of symbols Cirio finds in his aunt's bookshop. There's no way to deny the reality of the meeting when he finds an advertisement for the meeting in a newspaper blowing in the wind.
